alfieri house
[Italian version]

La casa degli alfieri is a house built for the theatre, on the top of a hill in the Monferrato area, nestled between vineyards and woodland, the living and working home of a group of artists
(the alfieri), who share a twenty-year patrimony of mutual art (performances, Crotone centre of art for children, theater and nature ).

Inside the house is home to flats, offices, a meeting room and exhibition centre, communal spaces, a spacious theatre-dance-music room and guest facilities. Outside the park is home to cedars, oaks, acacias, roses, outdoor theatre, glances lost in the distance and the wind.

The alfieri do not live alone. Many artists come up to see them (and sometimes stay for years) to think, plan, rehearse...to abide in the sense of fixing an abode.

Since 1995 there have been artistic initiatives and workshops, interconnected in "The Theatre and Beyond". Numerous artists, both youth groups and professional companies, come to visit. The aim is to unite experience and research, to take the theatre out of the ordinary and contaminate it with other scenic and worldy arts.

So the house is an artistic home in which projects are made, through modes of production which go beyond the changing of scenery and the demands of the cultural market.

And the house also aims to be home to the promotion of the Monferrato area (as well as Italy and the whole of Europe), where experiments are made in the light of current cultural trends, not just the everyday connection between cultural organization and artistic creation (projects).

At the casa degli alfieri new artistic ideas and practices, new poetics and ethics are what count.
